Sadly, we seem to have forgotten the most exceptional significance of the Puritan founding of New England ... when during a time that feudalism was the presumed proper order of all societies, the Puritans dared to set up in New England a society operating from a set of laws that created a most unique realm of social equals.   These foundational laws that the built this exceptional social order on were simply the unchanging Biblical laws drawn directly from Scripture ... kept ever-visible to these Puritans by way of the sermons coming from their Sunday pulpits.   In New England under just such a Christian order there existed no handful of fancy lords dominating a wider world of peasants and serfs.  Even New England’s leaders were chosen (annually by vote) by the New Englanders themselves.  Very, very exceptional was this social order.

Also sadly, we easily forget that apart from such inflexible legal foundations, it has been historically the case that all societies will sooner or later find themselves locked into just such kind of a feudal order ... in which power is held by ever-fewer and highly privileged social elite, with the rest of society existing simply in servitude to such feudal lords.

We need to do something to reverse this horrible social shift.  We need some kind of new spiritual “Great Awakening” to bring us back under our most exceptional legal order ... the very legal order that brought America from being a backwater society tucked away in the New World to the point of being not just a spectacular global superpower, but indeed God’s City on a Hill, Light to the Nation, a society designed to show the world a better way of servicing humankind politically, economically, culturally and spiritually.
