Human Reason is the powerful talent given us humans enabling us to dominate a planet filled with other creatures, ones possessing better hearing, sight, speed, and sheer strength ... because Reason is what brings us humans together as a unit to take on the surrounding world and its challenges.  But such Reason is a very tricky matter.  It can be very creative.  It can be very destructive.

All humans start off as visionary creatures.  Children, for instance can be very imaginative.  Such vision is vital to our ability to see better possibilities in life than merely the hard reality immediately in front of us.  But the only problem with such visionary reasoning is its ability, or inability, to provide us with truly successful means of dealing with that reality.  Reason itself is not automatically the Truth that we need to have a successful go at life.  Reason can be quite beautiful.  But it can also be quite useless in dealing in practical ways with life.  Or it can even be quite destructive, both to ourselves and others, if it leads us to do something that ultimately proves to be truly stupid or cruel.  Truth in life is thus always a much higher matter than simply Reason itself.

Such higher Truth itself can come to us in part by means of the advice or recorded legacy of generations that have gone before us ... demonstrating practical ways of dealing with reality.  And of course, we can submit ourself to contemporary group-think:  tribalism, nationalism, political partisanship, religion, etc.  But mostly, what actually shapes our ability to find Truth in the face of a very messy and quite unpredictable reality is simply what we learn personally when we step out in life, courageously reasoning our way forward step by step in the face of deep uncertainty.  Some pieces of logic will work for us.  Others will fail.  Little by little, our own powers of reasoning will take on practical means of dealing with that very complex reality facing us ... if we don’t first give up in tired discouragement and either quit thinking on matters, or simply let others do that thinking for us. 

So, courageous perseverance is the way of true Reason, not beautiful but still visionary (in practical ways) ... and ultimately what makes us humans the powerful creatures that we were designed to be.
